ABOUT
Rob Mills - Director
Rob is a Vaganova Ballet Instructor with advanced qualifications from both the Australian Ballet School and the New Zealand School of Dance.
Born in Sydney, Rob received his early ballet education in Cecchetti and RAD before focusing on Vaganova. He completed studies in New Zealand and was a guest dancer with the Royal New Zealand Ballet in their 2000 National Tour. He accepted positions to dance with Singapore Dance Theatre and West Australian Ballet.
As a dancer, Rob performed roles such as the Nutcracker Prince, the lead in The Rite of Spring, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, and has performed choreography by George Balanchine, John Cranko, Jirí Kylián, Choo San Goh, and Glen Tetley. He danced choreography by and worked in person with notable choreographers such as David Dawson, Marie-Claude Pietragalla, Ohad Naharin, Natalie Weir, Lucas Jervies, Lucette Aldous and many others. In 2013, he was recognised as a Distinguished Graduate by the New Zealand School of Dance.
In 2015, Rob transitioned to teaching with the aim to help the next generation of dancers achieve their goals. Since then, he has taught for the Australian Ballet School (ABS), Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), Melbourne Conservatoire of Ballet (MCB), and West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). He's taught masterclasses for the ABS, RAD Genée Dance Challenge Perth and WA Cecchetti Society, toured extensively across WA to teach West Australian Ballet’s regional education program, adjudicated at the RAD Festival and other eisteddfods, and been on assessment panels for the ABS, VCASS, MCB, and WAAPA.
Rob attained the Graduate Diploma of Elite Dance Instruction from the Australian Ballet School in 2021.
